I can admit to being a bit obsessive about my horse’s leg care. While Ax doesn’t often have very strenuous workouts, I’d rather play it safe than show up to a warm or puffy leg the next day. In my book, jumping, lessons, horse shows, and hunter paces are all activities that require wrapping and sometimes poulticing afterwards, but with Ax’s current rehab routine based off of the Mystery Lameness of 2017, my urge to wrap has increased significantly. I think it is time that you all get an update on my beloved buffalo.
This has been the year of maladies for Ax—earlier this year he sliced his mouth open which resulted in some minor stressing, an unexpected (and perfectly timed) vet visit, and some time off, and now we are approaching week four of stall rest due to a mystery lameness that has my vets stumped.
I didn’t have the typical horse shopping experience when I bought Ax. I wasn’t even horse shopping at all—I wasn’t looking for a horse, I was just looking to survive finals of my sophomore year of college. No pre-purchase exam, no assessment of his conformation, nothing. Just a short lease and a signed check.
