Because school was cancelled for Veteran’s day, yesterday was a free day to be spent at the barn. Ax and I have been itching to get out of the ring, especially after being in the indoor for the past week, and since is was gorgeous out, it was the perfect day for a trail ride. We were joined by Catherine and her horse Zack, as well as my boyfriend who willing climbed mountains to take pictures.Continue reading “Wordless Wednesday: Fall Trail Ride”
No Stirrup November: Week One
This year I have decided that I will be participating in the infamous No Stirrup November, but I am not dropping the irons for every ride for the entire month. My legs would probably fall off if I tried that. (Fun fact: Axcent has the BOUNCIEST trot on the planet, making NSN that much more difficult.) Instead, I am following my own rules for the sake of my horse and myself. Thankfully, a friend of mine is joining me on this torturous journey, so I am not going it alone.Continue reading “No Stirrup November: Week One”
No Stirrup November: Pros & Cons
As soon as the calendar turns past October, the equestrian world kisses their stirrups goodbye for the next thirty days—welcome to No Stirrup November.
There are many different opinions among different training and exercises that people do with their horses and No Stirrup November is no exception. (George Morris LOVES it.) I have heard both the good and the bad to going stirrupless for an extended period of time, so I made sure to look at both sides of the concept before bidding farewell to my beloved stirrups.Continue reading “No Stirrup November: Pros & Cons”
Stuff Riders Say…THANK YOU SMARTPAK
I AM EXPLODING FROM EXCITEMENT! BREECHES AND BOAT SHOES GOT FEATURED BY SMARTPAK!
If you read my blog regularly, you know that I recently wrote a review on Smartpak’s SmartBlanket App. When the post went live, I shared it on my Twitter and tagged Smartpak because why not?Continue reading “Stuff Riders Say…THANK YOU SMARTPAK”
10 Questions of October
I am actually doing these questions in the correct month! Yay! Another ten questions created by Viva Carlos.

- How many pairs of breeches/jods do you own?
- Too many, and not enough. I mostly rotate through the same four or five of my favorite pairs during the week and use the others as backups.
- How many horses have you ridden?
- This may be the hardest question so far. Between a ton of different barns, IEA, IHSA, and riding friend’s horses, I am not sure I could actually remember how many horses I have ridden, let alone COUNT them all! In short, upwards of 80.
- How many trainers have you had?
- Another complicated one since I have taken lessons and clinics with TONS of different people. But as far as people that I consider my “trainer”, 4.
- How many barns have you ridden at?
- Ridden at? Many, many, many because of shows and such. Boarded at? 8, which seems like a lot, but I rotate through the same three barns depending on whether Ax and I are at home, at school, or on the Island.
- What is the name of the horse you consider yourself to have the greatest bond with?
- Angel. Ax is on his way there, though.
- What is your favorite show name you’ve ever encountered?
- I am not sure I have one. I usually don’t may too much attention to horse names at shows.
- What do you consider your greatest weakness or flaw in riding?
- My fear of certain fences and fence height. I think that I am hindering myself because I can’t get out of my own head.
- What do you consider to be your greatest strength?
- My flat work. I spent so much of my riding life doing dressage and flat work, that it is absolutely my greatest strength.
- Have you ever leased a horse?
- Yes, quite a few.
- What is the name of the first horse you rode?
- Aside from carnival pony rides? JB.
